'Nirantarr 4 Generations' is a unique concept: Pt Bhavdeep Jaipurwale

MUMBAI: Pandit Bhavdeep Jaipurwale, best known as singer, composer, music arranger and a vocal trainer, launched his latest album 'Nirantarr 4 Generations'. This album is a compilation of the songs of four generations of Jaipurwale family. Thus, this special album includes songs from Bhavdeep’s grandfather Guni Gandharva Pt Laxman Prasad Jaipurwale, his father Pt Govind Prasad Jaipurwale and his son Sudeep Jaipurwale.

“The album ‘Nirantarr 4 Generations’ is a unique concept. It has songs from my grandfather, father, son and me. It’s rare to find four generations of classical singers in a family, but luckily our family has had four generations of singers,” said Bhavdeep.

Bhavdeep’s grandfather Guni Gandharva Pt Laxman Prasad Jaipurwale was a Dhrupad singer and court singer of the Holkars in Indore. His father Pt Govind Prasad Jaipurwale not just sang for Bollywood but also taught music to some well-known Bollywood faces like Asha Bhosle, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Mahalakshmi Iyer and Pankaj Udhas to name a few. Bhavdeep himself has taught some renowned music personalities Shaan, Sagarika, Falguni Pathak, Harshdeep Kaur, first Indian Idol Abhijeet Sawant, Sona Mohapatra, Neeti Mohan, Keerti Sagathia, Aditi Paul, Kshitij Tarey, Juhi Chawla, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Naseeruddin Shah and Namit Das amongst others. He has also given music to some award winning films, namely ‘Adi Mimansa’, ‘Lavanya Preeti’, ‘Aranyak’, ‘Shesha Drishti’, ‘Nandan’, ‘Baaja’, ‘Hamari Beti’ and ‘Kabhi Tum Kabhi Hum.’ His son Sudeep is a Bollywood playback singer and he is also the lead singer in Clinton Cerejo's band.

It wasn’t easy for Bhavdeep to compile his grandfather's and father's songs as recordings back then weren’t that great. “I did not have a huge bank of their songs but I managed to get some recordings of my grandfather from Jaipur while I got my father’s recordings from the UK. My recording used on the album too is an old one from 1997. However, my son Sudeep’s songs were recorded especially for the album,” revealed the musician who plans to come up with ‘Nirantarr – II’ sometime soon.

Talking about the album, Sudeep said, “It was my idea and I knew that people would love it.”

In this age of rock, jazz, pop and EDM we questioned Pt Bhavdeep on where is Indian classical music heading and he very simply answered, "Popular music is popular but classical music will always stay in everyone's heart."

Pt. Bhavdeep is currently busy training the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa (2016) finalists.
