MUMBAI: Asha Bhosle, the queen of melody, has announced that she will performing live for the last time in September this year.
Bhosle made the announcement at the cover-unveil launch of Society Magazine's May 2016 edition, which features her on the cover. The 82 year old singer, who has had a 72 year long career spanning more than 13000 recorded songs, was present at the Magna Lounge in Mumbai to make the announcement on Thursday morning.
The concert is part of a farewell tour in the UK where the versatile singer has locked two dates, 17 and 18 September for her live performance. On 17 September, the concert will take place in Genting Arena, Birmingham and 18 September, SSE Arena, Wembley, London will witness her swan song.
"Live performing seems more enthralling than playback singing as you realise your vitality. Earlier, we used to record in one breath without extra takes. So, to know your strength, live concerts are more interesting and also, the receipts come in the same day, not days later," quipped the legendary singer, tongue firmly in cheek.
In addition, the singer spoke about her mark on the magazine cover for which she tweeted few days back. She said, " I have been on the cover of the Society Magazine in 1983 with Sunil Gavaskar, Prakash Padukone, Penaz Masani and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, but for the first time I am appearing solo on the magazine cover."
Born on 8 September 1933, Bhosle is part of the famed Mangeshkar family, and counts singers Lata Mangeshkar, composer Hridaynath Mangeshkar among her siblings.
