Malishka scoops up The Angries award

MUMBAI: After Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha was "honoured" for getting angry for a good cause, radio jockey Malishka was awarded The Angries for being angry at the lack of accountability in people.

The Angries is a special award by the team of forthcoming film 'The Angry Birds Movie'. As the name suggests, the film is all about expressing anger, speaking up for the right and finding a right way to channel anger.

On the same lines, a campaign titled The Angries has been started wherein the birds award celebrities who get angry for a good cause.

Malishka is known for lashing out at people as well as government officials who shy away from taking accountability for things that should not be ignored -- be it potholes on the roads, safety of the citizens or use of drugs, read a statement.

Delighted to receive this award, Malishka said. “When you're standing up for yourself or for what is right, that anger is absolutely justified, I feel. It's a huge disservice to the self or the cause if one ignores that anger.”

She added,“The only thing to do is channel this anger properly or it could be harmful. I'm angry so many times, like when I open a newspaper and still hear someone say that short skirts are the reason for rape, when I pay a 'Swachch Bharat' tax and I see dirt everywhere, when someone takes credit for someone else's work, when water is wasted, when I see regressive TV serials that our women and men are watching all evening.”

Taking the basic structure of Rovio Entertainment's mobile game of the same name, the movie brings the game's action to the big screen in a witty manner.

In the game, angry but cute little birds fight it out with pigs which have stolen their eggs.

The film, which will hit the screens in India on 27 May 2016 in English, Hindi and Tamil, takes the audience back in time, tracing the origin of the battle between the birds and pigs.

The film is supported by Jason Sudeikis as Red, Danny McBride as the volatile Bomb, Bill Hader as a pig, Maya Rudolph as Matilda, and Peter Dinklage as the Mighty Eagle. It will be distributed by Sony Pictures.
