MUMBAI: Over a decade has passed since the acclaimed sufi rock band Junoon released a studio effort. However, come this November, and that would have changed. The Lahore-based band will release a brand new studio album, titled 'Junoon25', in November on Universal Music India.
The album title celebrates the band’s period of existence as one of the leading sufi rock acts in the world. The celebration has already begun, as the band re-launched the previously released seven albums – ‘Junoon’, ‘Talaash’, ‘UInquilaab’, ‘Azadi’, ‘Parvaaz’, ‘Andaz’, ‘Dewaar’ - across all digital platforms exclusively on Universal Music. Not only that, but for those who want to revisit the ‘Junoon’ days through the band’s most popular music over the years can buy the ‘Best Of’ compilation Double CDs which include ‘Sayonee’, Ghoom Tana’, ‘Meri Awaaz Suno’, ‘Mitti’ and 23 more songs.
Frontman Salman Ahmed said about the recent development, “Junoon is thrilled to be joining forces with Devraj Sanyal (MD, Universal Music India) and his amazing team at Universal Music India and Adrian Cheesley from the Universal Music Group in London for the celebration of Junoon’s 25th Anniversary releases. We are as excited about the new album ‘Junoon25’ as we are about the reactivation of the entire Junoon catalogue. Get ready to whirl & chant in ecstasy! May the Junoon be with you always!”
The signature ‘Junooni’ sound, best utilised to describe the band’s sound from ‘Junoon’ (1990) to ‘Dewaar’ (2003), has been missing for at least a decade, and the band hopes to recreate the magic once again.
Universal Music India CEO and MD Devraj Sanyal said, “We are extremely proud to partner with iconic band ‘Junoon’ in celebration of their 25th Year Anniversary! It’s an incredible achievement to stay relevant for 25 years…not many bands in our side of the world have such sustained careers and JUNOON is definitely up there amongst the very best. Our exhaustive plans around the 25th Year Anniversary will not only satiate the band’s loyal fan base but will also introduce them to a whole new generation! So enjoy the `Junooni’ ride all over again as we dig deep into the vaults of ‘Junoon’ and at the same time ready for their first new album in 11 years!”
