Shantanu Moitra to share a whiff of the Himalayas at NCPA concert

MUMBAI:- "I go to Nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put in order" said John Burroughs an American naturalist and nature essayist. This quote stands true for Bollywood music composer Shantanu Moitra who packed his bags a few months ago to quit the metropolis to explore the Himalayas.

The idea was to spend 100 days in the beauty of the Himalayas, explore and learn more about the mighty mountains that have been talked about for ages and also a need for self-discovery. “It was very important for me to understand what these mountain ranges meant. I wanted to understand and learn more about human life, vegetation, and wildlife above 14,000 feet. During this journey the tunes started flowing in freely. It was like my college days where music was more fun,” explains the ‘3 Idiots’ composer who created some beautiful renditions in the Himalayas.

The composer will now be sharing this Himalayan experience through ‘One World Many Musics: Celebrating Artistic Plurality’ a concert at NCPA on 7 October 2016.  Moitra will take the musical experience a notch higher with stories and experiences, accompanied by breathtaking photographs and videos that he shot during his journey with help of nature photographer Dhritiman Mukherjee.

“At times, monotony of the journey creates tunes that are not in your head,” says the ‘Wazir’ composer. He has also brought together some of the best in the business to execute his compositions at NCPA.

Ani Choying, a Buddhist nun who is a celebrated vocalist from Nago Gompa nunnery in Nepal and Kaushiki Chakrabarty, a versatile vocalist with an uncanny command over the voice. The other members include Ashwin Srinivasan (flute), Ankur Mukherjee (guitar, ukulele, and charango) and Daniel (keyboard).
