MUMBAI: Vivian Fernandes,? also known as Divine,?a local boy from the slums of Mumbai, who crafted his rapper ride from growing up in the streets, has become a poster boy now. The 2015 smash hit 'Mere Gully Mein' under Sony Music just hits one million views on YouTube today 17 November 2016.
'Mere Gully Mein’ was not only honoured as the ‘Best Video of 2015’ by Rolling Stone Magazine, but also established him as one of the premier hip-hop acts that garnered him an international listenership through plays on Beats1. The music video was all about the smiling faces of people living inside the slums of Mumbai.
Divine was also awarded ‘Best New Artist 2015’ by iTunes and Apple Music in India and as one of the top six artists to watch-out for in 2016 by the BBC Asian Network.
While talking about it Devine said, “Life is not as I had imagined, I have only you to thank, all of you that have made me. My mom, my friends, my neighbour, my grumpy, my label, my media friends, my venues, my band members, my listeners and God. Most importantly I want to thank hip hop, the culture that changed my life. I really feel DIVINE.”
