Harshdeep Kaur salutes Amaal Mallik's courage

MUMBAI: Award nominations did go through some serious criticism in the new year with actors and musicians coming out in the open to talk about the matter. One man whose social media post grabbed a lot of eyeballs was singer-music producer Amaal Mallik.

Mallik pointed numerous shortcomings of awards functions. His post was recently appreciated by ‘Zaalima’ singer Harshdeep Kaur. “I have read his post and I salute it. It takes a lot of courage to write a post like that. He is right in a lot of ways because there were a lot of good songs that were not even nominated,” said the singer.

When asked if she has experienced something similar in her life. The singer clarified that she has always been appreciated for her work, but there was an instance when she lost on an award that she believed was coming to her. “There are no complaints, but I was nominated for ‘Katiya Karoon’ from ‘Rockstar’ at Filmfare. The others nominated with me in the same category were Shreya Ghoshal and Usha Uthup,” stated the ‘Jugni’ singer.

Kaur further added that though she did not receive the award, she got some precious comments from AR Rahman. “Rahman Sir told me that it was a good song and that I should have won the award. The encouragement meant a lot to me.”

The singer is currently working on a song for ‘Irada’ with Neeraj Shridhar and has a song in Anupam Roy’s next. Apart from this Kaur is looking at composing for her upcoming single.
