MUMBAI: Red FM's 'Bajao for a Cause' campaign has got a new supporter and it's none other than the Badshah himself. Shah Rukh Khan met and spent time with the children of commercial sex workers at Mehboob Studios on Wednesday. He spoke to the kids about school, plans for their future, entertained them with his stories and even sang his popular song ‘Lungi Dance’ for them.
‘Bajao for a Cause’ is Red FM’s annual campaign where they take an initiative of social significance and raise awareness and funds to help the cause. This time, Red FM Mumbai has taken up the cause for the education of the children of commercial sex workers. The campaign which was launched on-air on 8 March will continue till the 31 of March and include other on-ground and on-air activities which will help in the collection of funds.
“Radio as a public broadcast medium is something we realize even as a private FM entity. To be aggressive and combative is our brand adrenaline; but to be social, responsible and sustainable is much beneath. It is in our DNA. ‘Bajao for a Cause’ is a project that is annually conducted through all our markets, with stations adopting different societal causes, relevant and pertinent to their region. This year, Mumbai has chosen a change platform with a twin good. Focusing on the schooling of children born to commercial sex workers it is a significant step towards basic education, as well as, social welfare. For these kids, it’s all about dignity, acceptability and opportunity. And we cannot thank Shah Rukh Khan enough for his support. With him, there is definitely more ‘heart’ to this endeavour!” said Nisha Narayanan, COO, Red FM.
Speaking from the venue Shah Rukh Khan said, “Thank you for having me on your show and your cause which is wonderful, it is really nice that you are getting all these children and through your cause you are educating them also. It’s really sweet what you are doing. I once again feel grateful to be included in it.”
The children came out elated. Spending an evening with their favourite superstar, Shah Rukh Khan was a dream come true for them. After the meeting a lot of them were even convinced that they wanted to study hard so that they could grow up and become like Shah Rukh.
