MUMBAI: Vayu, who has penned lyrics for Shubh Mangal Savdhaan and Tanu Weds Manu Returns, is all set to treat the audience with Lagdi Hai Thaai and Majaa Ni Life from the movie Simran.

Sharing the making of these tracks the Beat Pe Booty lyricist says, “Sachin- Jigar approached me for Simran and I was happy with the brief they gave me and agreed to it. It’s a Hansal Mehta film featuring Kangana as the lead actress. Interestingly, I had started my career with her first song Banno, so it just seemed like a good association. In a way, I respect Kangana Ranaut and Hansal Mehta for the kind of films they do.”

Majaa Ni Life track is not as poetic as most Bollywood songs sound. It’s a musical conversation that Kangana has with the audience and this was arduous for Vayu to put on paper as he explains, “Lyricists are programmed to write in word format but the tune given to Majaa Ni Life was very less, which made it very challenging for me to write in a non-song format. Also, the song was from a girl’s perspective which grilled me even more. It was more challenging than Lagdi Hai Thaai.”

Viewers are still unsure of what the word “Thaai” means from the track Lagdi Hai Thaai, Vayu elaborates on it, “Thaai is one word which I learned from my ex-girlfriend. According to me, Thaai means something which will capture your attention. So pretty much the word Thaai is attached to the song in a way and it's an invented word rather than a word which has some meaning attached to it already. The word did sound interesting to me and it went well with the flow of the song.”

Vayu has been working with Sachin-Jigar for more than a year now and sharing this experience he states, “We always work as a team and it's fun working with them. They trust what I write and respect my decisions as well, while it’s quite easy to work with them as we have a good rapport.”

He further adds, “Any brief that Sachin-Jigar get, they first ask me if I want to do it and if I like it I go for it. For Simran they approached me and  I was given a brief that there is a Gujarati girl who is attending her cousin's marriage in which she is having fun and grooving to some desi steps. I kept all these things in mind and the song (Majaa Ni Life) came out beautifully.”

On his unique writing and composing style Vayu says, “Whenever I write the lyrics I first imbibe the brief of the story, at times you can get the lyrics really quick, but at times you need to get into the depth which would seem quite strenuous. I also have this ability to make and composing songs with my mouth – does not need musical instruments -- which I use only for my independent composition (laughs).

“It did not take much time for me to write Lagdi Hai Thaai while Maja Ni life took a lot of time. It took the longest time out of all songs I have written for Sachin-Jigar till date."
