MUMBAI: Delivering a hit is of utmost importance in the Bollywood music industry but is there a formula for the same? The question that keeps lingering around is what really works and what does not work in favour of Bollywood music, but there are hardly any answers.
Well-known music composer-singer Shekhar Ravjiani recently shared his success formula with aspiring artists at the All About Music conference that took place in the city recently.
He said, “Hit creation happens when you go with what makes you happy. Suno Na, Tu Aashiqui Hai and Om Shanti Om songs still play on TV and radio because they are forever songs. The others are event based songs, but the real songs are the ones that last.”
Putting the organic song making process in a word he stated, “What works in music is honesty.”
He further explained that song making process is a collaboration between a music composer and director. “Creating music happens when you collaborate. I also believe in no effort zone. Music should come out of the passion of creating great music.”
Shekhar also went on to point out the common mistake that most newcomers make. “There is no patience. Most of the newbie want instant success. Everyone has started following the one hit song template. But, as a musician to conduct yourself you should do riyaz. After one hit show, most forget to do that. I feel bad for such people,” said Shekhar.
Lastly, talking about his successful association with Vishal Dadlani the composer stated, “18 years of collaboration with Vishal has been fantastic, but there is a hunger to explore and I enjoy my personal space.”
Thus, the singer-composer is looking at exploring more of the independent space with songs like Hanuman Chalisa, Gayatri Mantra and the latest Devi.
