MUMBAI: There has been a talk for a long time about youngsters turning their back on Indian Classical Music and the main reason cited has been the long duration of the concerts. Keeping that in mind, a first of its kind 20-20 has been curated for gennext. This show will present six young but supremely talented classical musicians-Renuka Indurkar, Neha Gurav, Yadnesh Raikar, Kedar Kelkar, Akash M and Gandhar Deshpande, present solo performances of not more than 20 minutes.
This show is curated by Santoor maestro Pandit Satish Vyas through his organisation, Maharashtra Lalit Kala Nidhi, with a thought and intention to invite younger audience to this rich form of music. The conceptualisation is done without distorting the tradition and yet bringing a certain novelty. All the six performers are trained in pure classical music and their performance would be focused on the same - no fusion, no pop music either.
While it seems fun for the audience, it certainly seems to be a task for the performers. “20-20 Gennext” is a unique concept where we have to present whole raag in 20 minutes which is an intellectually challenging task. So, I am looking forward to it," says Gandhar Deshpande, vocalist.
“It will be a different kind of learning experience to showcase gayaki(singing prowess) in 20 mins. I thank Kalawardhini foundation and Maharashtra Lalit Kala-Nidhi for giving this wonderful opportunity. Performing on such a great stage with the very talented artists will be another great experience," says Kedar another young talent to perform.
