Modern Punjabi culture comes alive in new track and video by rapper Fateh

MUMBAI:   Punjabi is one of the official languages in Canada given the Punjabi population in the country. The imprint of Punjabi culture globally too has been phenomenal. Consider this, Toronto-based rapper Fateh, who is known for his song Lovely from blockbuster Happy New Year, has a new track and video Raazi to share today, as the latest release from Artist Originals (AO), the in-house music label of South Asian music streaming service, JioSaavn.

Raazi depicts the multi-cultured life that Fateh has led till now. He was born in Bangkok to Indian parents. The family later moved to California and then to Canada. Depicting the multi-cultured lifestyle led by Fateh, Raazi is composed and pictured in the most tasteful manner.

“With this music video, I wanted to share the nuanced imagery that makes up the subculture of Punjabis in Toronto in a contemporary, yet not so obvious way. Shooting at locations from a local truck yard, to a strip mall jewelry shop, to an African and Indian textile wholesaler, I wanted to share the culture that I’ve grown up around. I also wanted to include the diversity within the culture who celebrates “Punjabi Pride” – emerging artists, international students, Kabaadi sports athletes, bhangra dancers and others that share my universe. It was fun to bring all these ideas under one roof to share something new,” Fateh said about his new release.

Rapping as Fateh Doe, the artist released mixtapes California State of Mind (2009), One Verse Curse (2010) and Mr Wall Street (2011). He first gained popularity when he was discovered by Dr Zeus in 2012. In August 2015, he released his debut solo single Naiyo Jaan De, receiving four nominations at the 2015 Brit Asia Music Awards: Breakthrough Act, Best North American Act, and Best Urban Asian Act. Fateh released his debut album, Bring It Home, in 2016, followed by To Whom It May Concern in May 2018.
