MUMBAI: Seems like Ranveer Singh’s the Gully Boy fever isn’t stopping anytime, but has become an awakening for the country’s youth, especially those rappers. And now, acknowledging this tide, Mumbai University has introduced a three month course for those hip hop lovers, who want to make big in this genre of music.

Introduced by the Mumbai University Head of department Communication and Journalism Dr Sanjay Ranade, the course will commence in June 2019 and will cost Rs 5000 for aspiring candidates. The course has recently got a final approval. His partner in crime happens to be assistant professor Yatindra Ingle, who has been a rapper since 2005. Together, they want to change the underground rap scene.

When it comes to the syllabus, the course is an introductory crash course, which will introduce its students to hip hop, its history, how it was introduced to the world by Americans, nuances of both mainstream and underground hip hop. The course will also introduce students. The lectures comprising of theories of race, migration and gender, students will get an opportunity to learn as well as critically think about the connections between street culture and urban degradation.

In the words of Yatindra Ingle, after the completion of the course, students will be able to analyse both the historic and social roots of hip hop and the top debates, which have always grabbed eyeballs over its practice.

Going further, both Ranade and Ingle want aim to propose a diploma as well as a post graduation course in hip hop, a genre that has been neglected for long.

Well, Gully Boy has indeed opened hope for the underground rappers and hip hop clan to learn more about the genre and get certified, thus opening doors for its success in India.
