MUMBAI: DJ/Producer GURBAX, recognized for being at the forefront of the bass music movement in India is gearing up for the release of his maiden album that dropped on 8th April 2022. Titled ‘REBIRTH’, the futuristic 8-track compilation sees the artist teaming up with a diverse bunch of collaborators including singer-songwriter Rashmeet Kaur, bass music heavyweight NDS, Billboard charting songwriter and artist Mayila, Amsterdam-based producer & future-bass pioneer GANZ, Las Vegas-based rap duo called Gold Lemonade and LA-based singer/songwriter Devesh Dayal
Experimenting with a new palette of sounds and instruments, the release of this body of work showcases the diversity of GURBAX’s artistry and spotlights his authenticity as juggles effortlessly between indie-pop, electronic and hip hop. With tracks like ‘Mere Warga’, ‘Runnin' Away’ and ‘Yaariyan’ embracing spirited melodies and tracks like ‘Stay Lit’ and ‘Namaha’ exploring new age experimental sounds, this freshman album represents the rebirth of the artist, GURBAX.
Commenting on the single, hailed as one of the fastest rising names in the country’s electronic dance music scene, GURBAX, who has shared the stage with the likes of Diplo, Above& Beyond, Steve Aoki, Marshmello, Wiz Khalifa, Troyboi says, “It’s taken me 8 years to get here.. to finally be able to release an album.. and its one of the most fulfilling moments of my career”
Rakhi Sawant adds, “I’m so very excited about this project of mine. It’s the first time I’ve experimented with not just my overall styling but also the genre of the music video. I’m a big fan of hip hop and I always wanted to do something classy and yet cool. I’m grateful to GURBAX for giving me this opportunity to be part of a global showcase.”
Commenting on the single, Rashmeet Kaur states, “Yaariyan is a very special song for us. Me and Gurbax started working on this track in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh and then we finished writing the lyrics along with my friend Nikhil in Goa and finally recorded vocals in mumbai. So we literally travelled to places while creating this track and it feels like a breath of fresh air. I would say Yaariyan has the warmth of mountains, moisture of Goa and pace of Bombay”
Through this body of music, he hopes it can not only find the audience it needs, but also can help dispel the fear that every artist faces on their journey of reinvention.
TRACKLIST
1. Mere Warga (ft. Happy Singh & Burrah) - Punjabi/English comical bravado laced on top of the bounciest hip hop, reggae & dancehall-inspired beats make ‘Mere Warga’ feel like that first sip of a chilled vodka-soaked watermelon juice on a hot, sunny afternoon at the beach. Coming at you with a lustrous international roster of artists spanning from Los Angeles to Delhi to Bangalore, ‘Mere Warga’ is a definite antidote to the current times.
2. Yaariyan (ft. Rashmeet Kaur & GANZ) - Yaariyan is a song about discovering true friendship with yourself in nature. Its an all-out electronic banger laced with incredible vocals by Rashmeet Kaur & also the dexterity Amsterdam-based producer & future-bass pioneer GANZ.
3. Runnin Away (ft. Dayce) - A refreshingly fun & bouncy indie-pop track about acceptance & rebirth. Worked with LA-based singer/songwriter Dayce, aka Devesh Dayal who is also the guitarist for Skyharbour
4. They Like (ft. Mayila & MA Johnson) - This song is essentially the story about how some girls can be deranged and crazy but still keep us men charmed out of our wits & continue to be at their beck & call. Collaborators are Mayila (songwriter for Ty Dolla Sign, Chris Brown, Tinashe, etc.) & MA Johnson
5. Stay Lit (ft. Gold Lemonade & Loskies) - Fresh new-age hip hop gets the Gurbax treatment via this collaboration with Las Vegas-based rap duo called Gold Lemonade, who are originally from eastern Europe. Perfect soundtrack for a night of debauchery in Sin City.
6. Get Over You (ft. Argenil) - Gurbax's first ever house release is a haunting collaboration with Bengaluru-based producer Argenil. Hitting the sweet spot between providing a euphoric escape and having the most infectious of grooves, this track has a flavour of its own.
7. Namaha (ft. NDS) - An-all out banger with fellow-bass music heavyweight NDS marks their first collaboration together & possibly the hardest-hitting track on the album.
