MUMBAI: It has been seven years since Grammy Award nominee Akon released a full length studio album. Now, in 2015, the 'Lonely' singer plans to release a five-disc album titled 'Stadium'. The album, which is his fourth, will include five full-length sections showcasing five different genres of music, from euro, pop, urban, island and world.
On New Year's Day, 1 January, the 'Don't Matter' singer announced the ambitious project through his Twitter account. He posted, "Thru out this long wait, there has been fans who stuck with me. This Album is for you! 5 Albums, 5 genres equalling STADIUM." (sic)
Akon has made one single from each of the five sections available on his website. From 'Stadium: Euro', the single made available is 'Better' and features Niko the Kid. From 'Stadium: Pop', there is a piano track called 'To Each His Own'. 'Stadium: Urban' features the track 'Whole Lot', while Stephen Marley features in the song 'Just a Man', which is part of 'Stadium: Island'. The 'Stadium: World' section includes the track 'Feeling a Nikka' featuring D'Banje.
Even though Akon has not released a studio album in seven years, he has been a featured artiste for many famous music producers. He appeared in David Guetta's 'Sexy Bitch' in 2009, and again in Guetta's 'Play Hard' (2013) with Ne-Yo. He has also been featured on tracks by various other music artists such as Flo Rida, Dr. Dre, Kat De Luna, Nelly and Madonna.
In 2014, Akon was featured on Chris Brown's 'Came to Do' and Harlee's 'Dream Warriors'. In 2007, he won the Billboard Music Artist of the Year Award and the American Music Award for Favourite R&B/Soul Male Artist. In 2011, Akon made his Hindi singing debut with the song 'Chammak Challo' produced by Vishal-Shekhar and Giorgio Tuinfort for the Bollywood film 'Ra.One.'
