Niranjan Pedgaonkar to debut as music composer for new Marathi film 'Prime Time'

MUMBAI: Former music programmer for Marathi films, Niranjan Pedgaonkar, makes his debut as a music composer with the upcoming Marathi film, 'Prime Time'. The film's soundtrack features industry heavyweights like Shreya Ghoshal along with up-and-coming singers like Janvee Prabhu Arora and others.

"The film has altogether five songs, and each song has a unique and different sound and style to it," said Pedgaonkar, who has been trained in Hindustani classical music since his childhood, and has even graduated in music. "The soundtrack includes electronic music with Kathak, Marathi folk and even classic old romance and love music," he continued.

The first song of the film is called 'Pavsaat Vede' and is an up-beat dance track, as informed by Pedgaonkar. It features vocals by celebrated Bollywood singer Shreya Ghoshal. Apparently, the song was not going with the script of the film, but the director Promod Kashyap liked it so much that he wrote an entire scene just to suit the song.

The second track in the film is called 'Reshmi' and is a romantic track which is accompanied by male solo vocals, given by Rohit Raut. "Even though, he has lent his vocals in various other films, this is the first time Rohit is singing something like this; it is very new for him," said Pedgaonkar.
The third song is called 'Ali Lahar', and for this track, Pedgaonkar himself has lent his vocals along with Omkar Patil. For this track, Pedgaonkar said that he has given a comedic twist to the classic Marathi folk lavani, resulting in a male duet.

The fourth track is titled 'Tujhya Vina' and is a sad, melancholic track, while being a happy song at the same time. "Composing this song was a real challenge, because I had to find a contrast between emotions of happiness and sadness in the same song, because it shifts from portraying the sad male protagonist to the happy female protagonist and back to the sad male protagonist. It really took some time for me to compose," said Pedgaonkar.

The track is a duet featuring Abhay Jodhpurkar in his first Marathi track and Savani Ravindra.

The final song in the film's soundtrack is 'Zindagi', which Pedgaonkar described as a 'dhamaal' dance track. The song incorporates electronic music with traditional Indian Kathak music. The track features vocals by Janvee Prabhu Arora.

'Prime Time' is the story of Vaishali Apte, her small Maharashtrian family and her bizarre obsession with the world of television. Her obsession leads the family through a roller coaster of adventures where ultimately they realise the true value of their relationships. Prime Time is a lighthearted comedy meant for family audiences at large.

Niranjan Pedgaonkar has a couple of films in the pipeline; however, nothing is confirmed yet.
