Ek Villian's 'Galliyan' wins top honours at IIFA Awards

MUMBAI: For the last week, Kuala Lumpur was buzzing due to the presence of the Bollywood fraternity in the capital of Malaysia. The city played host to the prestigious IIFA Awards, which recognises the best of Bollywood in film and music. The celebrations kicked off on 5 June and concluded on 7 June.

Shankar Ehsaan Loy walked away with the Best Music Composer award for the film '2 States'. The trio faced competition from Mithoon, Ankit Tiwari, Vishal Bhardwaj, Yo Yo Honey Singh, Pritam and Arko Pravo Mukherjee in the same category.

Ankit Tiwari once again bagged the Best Playback Singer- Male award for his song 'Galliyan' (Ek Villain). Tiwari was pitted against Arijit Singh, Mika Singh and Sukhwinder Singh for the top honour. Meanwhile, the Best Playback Singer- Female award went to Kanika Kapoor for her song 'Baby Doll' (Ragini MMS2). The category also featured names like Sultana and Jyoti Nooran and Shreya Ghoshal.

Manoj Muntashir bagged Best Lyricist for his song 'Galliyan', after facing competition from lyricists like Rashmi Singh and Amitabh Bhattacharya for 'Mast Magan' from the film '2 States'.
Screen writer, director, lyricist Vishal Bhardwaj was bestowed with the Best Background Score award for 'Haider'.  Meanwhile, Shajith Koyeri was given Best Sound Design for 'Haider', while Eric Pillai received an award for Best Song Recording for the song 'Galliyaan'.

This year the IIFAs also hosted a music concert- IIFA Rocks a day before the award ceremony. Singers like Javed Ali, Nooran sisters, Aditi Singh Sharma, Nakash Aziz, Kanika Kapoor and Ankit Tiwari performed at the event. Bollywood actress, Sonakshi Sinha made her singing debut, performing alongside Mika Singh at the event.
