MUMBAI: Music streaming service Apple Music has acquired a music license from PRS for Music. The license includes on-demand streaming subscriptions in all European territories as well as its Beats 1 Radio platform, and covers PRS, MCPS and IMPELS rights.
This will allow consumers to enjoy PRS for Music’s repertoire on-demand over the internet and on iOS devices such as iPhones, iPads, Macs and PCs. All the members will be remunerated from the launch for the new service, including the three-month free trial period available to new subscribers to the service. With over 2,000 online customers, PRS for Music has been able to grow by 17.5 per cent to over £79.7 million, with royalties from streaming services at £38.8 million exceeded those of downloads for the first time at £26.7 million.
PRS for Music head of online Ben McEwen commented, “We are excited about Apple Music. Streaming is fast becoming the dominant means of music discovery – and for our members to earn royalties for their work online. Every new licensed streaming service gives a boost to both the tech and creative industries and underlines just how vital collaboration is to ensure there is a healthy, thriving market for digital services, music makers and music lovers alike.”
The organisation has been working with Apple for over 10 years to ensure its new products and services have been launched legitimately and licensed efficiently.
