MUMBAI: She melted hearts with ‘Ishq Bulaava’ from ‘Hasee Toh Phasee’, but this time Shipra Goyal will want to make you put on your dancing shows with the peppy number ‘Tutti Bole Wedding Di’. The song is from the film ‘Welcome Back’, and is composed by Meet Brothers, who have also lent vocals to the track.
“I got a call from the office of Meet Brothers to sing this track, and the only brief that was given to me was that it is a peppy Punjabi wedding number. Being a Punjabi, I could totally relate to it. We finished recording the song within one session, and after a few days I found out that my voice had been selected,” said Goyal.
Over the last few years Goyal has been active in the Punjabi music industry, and has crooned more than 14 songs for Punjabi films. She also bagged a PTC Punjabi Music Award nomination for Best Duet for her single ‘Lovely vs PU’, with Ravinder Grewal.
Her first brush with an onstage performance came at five years old, when her mother taught her a song and she walked away with an accolade for it. Hailing from a family of musicians, music runs in her blood, but her parents never pushed her to pursue music as a career. “When I told my parents that I wanted to learn music, they just taught me the basics and did not indulge into too many technicalities. Our ‘gayaki’ (singing style) belongs more to the gharanas of Punjab,” she explained. Goyal was always a part of her school choir and college band.
Goyal, who was always a part of her school choir and college band, shifted to Mumbai a couple of years ago to follow her music dreams. And she cites singing for Vishal Shekhar as the best moment for her till date. “One evening, I went to meet Vishal and Shekhar at their studio and they asked me to sing a song. They immediately decided that they want me to sing ‘Ishq Bulava’ and within three days I was told that my voice was selected for the track,” she reminisced.
Currently, Goyal is keeping her fingers crossed for ‘Tutti Bole Wedding Di’ and hopes that listeners love the track as much as she does. He has also crooned the track 'Yaadan Teriyaan' from the film 'Hero'.
