MUMBAI: A Grammy winning singer/ songwriter, and recipient of a Commander of the Order of the British Empire title, Sting, has come a long way from being a bus conductor to being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The former Police frontman is rated as one of the best selling music artists, and his talent has even taken him to Broadway with his very own musical- ‘The Last Ship’. As one of the most influential rockers in the world, Sting has had numerous hits in his long and successful career. Here are some of his best.

Every Breath You Take

While this track is technically by Sting’s former band- The Police, it was written and performed by the 63 year old rocker. Nominated for three Grammys, and winning two, ‘Every Breath You Take’ is, by far, one of Sting’s most popular songs, which went on to receive a Gold certification.

Fields of Gold

The second single from ‘Ten Summoner's Tales’, Sting’s Grammy winning album, ‘Fields of Gold’ is one of his signature tracks. It had excellent chart success in a number of countries including UK, US, Germany, Ireland and Switzerland, among others.

Desert Rose

Featuring Algerian singer Cheb Mami, ‘Desert Rose’ was another extremely popular track by Sting, much after he had established his solo career. Although the song was not a huge hit at award ceremonies, it achieved massive commercial success, raking in the Top 20 of both, UK and US charts.

Fortress Around Your Heart

Inspired by his divorce from his first wife, ‘Fortress Around Your Heart’ was part of Sting’s debut solo album- ‘The Dream of the Blue Turtles’, released in 1985. In an interview at the time, when explaining the track, he said that he thought the track’s chorus was one of the best he had ever written. The song placed on UK and US charts, and even topped Billboard’s Top Rock Tracks chart.

If I Ever Lose My Faith In You

Another of Sting’s popular songs, ‘If I Ever Lose My Faith In You’, is part of his fourth solo studio album ‘Ten Summoner's Tales’. The track managed three Grammy nominations and one win for Best Pop Vocal Performance Male, despite achieving moderate chart success.

Brand New Day

The title track of his sixth studio album, ‘Brand New Day’, was yet another successful release. Along with winning a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for the feel-good track, the album also earned Sting a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album.

Roxanne

Another Police track, Roxanne was both, written and performed by Sting, and appeared on the band’s debut album ‘Outlandos d'Amour’. Released in 1978, the reggae rock track was inspired by prostitutes that Sting saw while in Paris. ‘Roxanne’ became a Grammy Hall of Fame inductee in 2008, and is one of ‘The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll’.

All for Love

Sting has had several collaborations, but ‘All For Love’ is perhaps one of his most memorable. Performed by Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart and Sting, the track was part of the soundtrack for the film ‘The Three Musketeers. Written by Adams, Robert John "Mutt" Lange and Michael Kamen, ‘All for Love’ was a chart topper in a number of countries, and received a Platinum certification.
