Rajya Sabha passes Bill to amend Prasar Bharati Act

NEW DELHI: The Rajya Sabha today passed the bill for amending the Prasar Bharati Act 1990 for treating all government officers and employees recruited by All India Radio or Doordarshan as on 5 October 2007 to be on 'deemed deputation' with effect from April 2000 till the time of their retirement. The Bill for amending Section 11 and some other provisions of the Act was moved by Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting CM Jatua and passed unanimously.

Music group Underworld unite with Boyle for London Olympics

MUMBAI: British electronic music pioneers Underworld has been announced as music directors for the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games to be held on 27 July 2012. The London Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) declared that Underworld duo Rick Smith and Karl Hyde will work alongside Oscar winning British filmmaker and producer Danny Boyle. The filmmaker is appointed as the artistic director of the opening ceremony and will be responsible for the music played in the three-hour ceremony.

Michael Jackson musical tribute on Glee

MUMBAI: The popular television musical drama "Glee" will pay a special tribute to late King of Pop Michael Jackson in an episode schedule to be aired on 24 Jan. The episode will centre on some of Jackson's biggest hit records. The producers are planning to feature around 12 of the singer's songs and are fast tracking the writing of the script, with the first half set to be filmed before Christmas. The second half will be completed when the actors return in early January before airing later that month, reports Tv Guide magazine.

Guns N' Roses, Beastie Boys inductees of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

MUMBAI: Guns N' Roses, the Beastie Boys and Red Hot Chili Peppers have been announced as the 2012 inductees of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Blues legend Freddie King was named as an �Early Influence, while the late producer and TV host Don Kirshner was rewarded with Ahmet Ertegun (nonperformer) Award. Radio & Music sector to reach $844 mn by 2014: E&Y

MUMBAI: The radio and music industry combined are projected to grow at a CAGR of 17.3% to reach US$844 million by 2014 from  US$445 million in 2010, according to Ernst & Young's (E&Y) report - â€?Spotlight on India's Entertainment Economy'. The report reveals that both the industries contributes 2.4% of the total Indian M&E industry revenues. FM radio reaches 30% of Indians, while Indian youth are the second-largest audience for paid digital music globally.

Canada getting access to new music streaming service Deezer in new year

MUMBAI: Canada is getting access to a new music streaming service called Deezer in the new year. The subscription-based website and mobile apps offer access to 13 million tracks from over 2,000 labels. It's expected to launch in Canada in by the end of January but pricing has not yet been announced. In the U.K., prices range from about five to 10 British pounds a month, which is in line with its competitors including Spotify. In Canada, Deezer will compete against the likes of Rdio and Slacker Radio.
