Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan documents his music

MUMBAI: Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan and The Scottish Chamber Orchestra led by acclaimed Welsh composer David Murphy will embark on a six-city tour of India beginning 9 February 2009. The concert is special because this is also first time the maestro's music has been written as notations - in the style of Western musical scores. Since, Indian classical music has an oral legacy, obviously, his compositions had never been written before. However, with Samaagam his music will now be documented.

Music helps gaming sales rise in '08

MUMBAI: Four video-game franchise titles with music tie-ins touched a record mark for US video-game and computer game software, according to the NPD Group, a research company that provides point-of-sale (POS) information and industry expertise across industries. These represent over five per cent of the total 297.6 million units sold in 2008, according to the research. According to the report, unit sales were up 11 per cent from the previous year's record and represented $11.7 billion at retail, a 23 per cent year-over-year increase.

CD compilation series 'Now' joins forces with Fuller

MUMBAI: CD compilation series, Now That's What I Call Music!, will partner with Simon Fuller - founder of 19 Entertainment, and creator of American Idol - to bring the "Now" brand to television and internet. The announcement comes as "Now" celebrates a decade of hits in the US with a 10th anniversary CD, and coincides with "Now" UK's 25th birthday. UK's RAB campaigns to promote radio in credit crunch
