Saregama classical app downloaded 50k times in two weeks

MUMBAI: Two weeks back, RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group owned music label Saregama, launched Saregama classical app. Now, the company has informed that the app has been downloaded 50, 000 times.

In order to mark the milestone, Saregama has added a rare collection of Gauhar Jaan’s musical works to the app. Jaan is India’s first recorded artist and her first performance was recorded on 78 rpm records on 2nd November 1902 and released by The Gramophone Company of India (former name of Saregama). Her work in ‘Raag Jogiya’ in ‘Dadra Taal’ was the first ever-record of India. The label has added this rare piece to the app to treat all classical music lovers.

Commenting on the new milestone for the app, Saregama India Ltd MD Vikram Mehra said, “Being the custodian of the rare recordings of the doyens of the classical music fraternity we believe that the classical music lovers have found the answer to their yearnings in Saregama classical app. The initial response has been phenomenal and we are adding hundreds of new works today taking the total count of songs to 10000 plus.”

Apart from Gauhar Jaan, Saregama classical app will have musical works of artistes like Ustad Shahid Parvez, Ustad Fateh Ali Khan, Ustad Sultan Khan, Pt. Ramkrishna Bua Vaze, Shruti Sadolikar, Shubha Mudgal, Veena Sahasrabuddhe, Padma Talwalkar and Sunderabai to name a few.
