MUMBAI: One of the country’s renowned regional music labels- Muzik247, has launched a digital initiative 'Muzik247 Music Maker 2015', to indentify music talent from across the Malayali community. The winner will be picked from among the 15 selected names, who will reach the last leg of the competition.

The digital competition will encourage music talents to compose, sing and write lyrics on their own, unlike many in the film industry. The label, which recently released an album ‘Nilathattam’ feels the need to promote more Indie talent, which is why the label has launched a contest, stated Muzik247's Head Of Operations Syed Zameer.

"Muzik247 has always been synonymous to quality Malayalam music. Our market share in Kerala is a reflection to our passion to acquire premium and quality content. We now want to give back to the industry by presenting that one person who is a true musician in all sense and who can be an invaluable addition for the Malayalam music," he said.

This will offer bigger opportunities to artists who are comfortable with Malayalam as these musicians will have to create a cover of 15 listed songs under the label- Muzik247, and the best will progress to the last round of 15. The last date for submission is 20 November, 2015, for all cover versions. All 15 entries will then be asked to share their unpublished original compositions, for which the last date is 15 December, 2015. Afzal Yusuff will then judge these 15 original compositions to choose the final winner.

Although the winner will get no cash prize, he or she will get the opportunity to work on a single and music video that will be produced by the label. Zameer said, “The single will be as per the standard and all the cost will be borne by us. It is all about nurturing talent and promoting it across the medium.”

Zameer is looking at responses from the Malayali community, which is spread across the globe and is comfortable with Malayalam. “We have no geographical restrictions,” he added.

He also said that the label does not plan to bind the talent with any contract, as he believes artists should be given the freedom to pick their partners. However, Muzik247 will give the selected talent a chance to work with its film and non-film projects, if he feels the winner fits the requirement.

The music label recently released a romantic mappila album titled 'Nilathattam' which was its first non-film album, and it received a positive response, prompting the label to extend its work in the non-film space.

In the film space, Muzik247 recently acquired music rights of Jayasurya starrer, 'Su.. Su.. Sudhi Vathmeekam'. The music for all the three tracks has been composed by Bijibal, while P.Jayachandran, Swetha Mohan, Thripunithura Girija Varma and Ganesh Sundaram have provided vocals for the tracks, which are penned by Santhosh Varma.
