Press Information Bureau launches blog to facilitate flow of information

MUMBAI: On the occasion of India’s 69th Independence Day, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) of India under the guidance of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) ministry, launched a blog in wordpress. This blog will act as a platform for the government to voice its achievements.

After tech-savvy Prime Minister Narendra Modi took over, there has been a change in the way the Ministries and their respective wings, communicate the necessary information to common man. Currently, the blog carries post and articles by various union ministers such as rural development minister Birender Singh and environment minister of state (independent charge) Prakash Javadekar, among other contributors (such as ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship). There is also piece on Modi's achievements, based on his promises made during Independence Day 2014 speech. A colourful factsheet on the government’s activities is also embedded in the blog.

The blog started on the first week of August, however, the write-up on the blog was made live on 14 August 2015. The social media cell of PIB will be handling the space.

The statement issued by PIB says that the initiative is an attempt to facilitate the qualitative flow of information to the concerned stakeholders such as journalists, citizens and keep them engaged with the government. The blog can also be accessed from PIB’s website as well.

It further said that the move is a part of its overall shift towards more interactive social media, such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and others.

Recently, the union minister of state for home affairs Kiren Rijiju launched the channel on YouTube with the video ‘Saal Ek Shuruat Anek’. This shows the growing interest of the Government to change with time.
