Sony Music dominates Indian music charts

MUMBAI : Sony Music is ending this year on a high note, with seven of the ten positions on the charts in its kitty in 2016.

This chart-topping roster is led by songs from the Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai starrer ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’, Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra and Fawad Khan starrer ‘Kapoor & Sons’ and the most recent Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Dear Zindagi’. Also, Sony Music is being dominant in the Tamil charts where it has had successes with music from films like ‘Rum’, ‘Remo’, ‘Iru Mugan’ and ‘Kodi’.

Multi-talented music composer Anirudh Ravichander, who is managed by the label, has worked on a globally successful collaboration with Major Lazer for an Indian version of the International smash hit ‘Coldwater’ featuring Justin Bieber and MO.

The label also exclusively manages a successful roster of artists, including India’s hit machine Badshah, pop star Arjun Kanungo and Indian hip hop’s voice from the street Divine.

The international songs from debut artists including ‘Cheap Thrills’ by Sia, ‘Closer’ by The Chainsmokers, along with Coldplay’s ‘Hymn for the Weekend’ became huge across streaming, radio and were enjoyed by fans across the country. This steady stream of chart-toppers in various genres through the year has made the label a clear leader in the market.
