Saregama's 'Song Selector' will be a discovery tool: Vikram Mehra

MUMBAI: One of the oldest and largest Indian music label Saregama - has gone live with its B2B tool ‘Song Selector.’ This tool will allow its partners (existing and potential) in advertising agencies, film production houses and television industry, to access Saregama’s 1,17,000 plus strong catalogue.

Saregama plan to ease up user experience by providing search options to find appropriate song or songs as per their storyboard situation or occasion. The tool will be available to the creative team of agencies as well as their affiliated production houses.

It may be recalled that in July, Saregama MD Vikram Mehra had informed Radioandmusic.com about the company’s plan to launch the initiative. Speaking on the same, he said, “Our new initiative - the ‘Song Selector’ - is a single license window, which will ensure all our partners an easy process of selecting songs from our vast repertoire.”

Providing details on the reason for developing the tool, he added, “I have met a range of advertisers and production houses to understand the hurdles they face while accessing our catalogue. Based on our understanding, we developed this tool, which is about making the Saregama catalogue accessible to our partners, who find content discovery a key problem. This tool will be a discovery tool for them.”

With the B2B tool, it is easy to discover the right content, by the name of the song, by theme as well as mood.

The tool is developed by Saregama’s in-house team. “We at Saregama, have built the product and have been testing it for a while. Finally, we have launched it. We have a strong team that can empower our digital initiative,” said Mehra.

As of now Saregama provides access to Indian Classical, Ghazal, Bhajan, Qawwali and Folk among other forms of music genres. However, it is limited to Hindi songs. Mehra added, “Soon, we will add other languages as well.”

He further informed, “We made sure that the tool does not recommend content, but provides content that agencies are looking for. Saregama will be in the best position to push the sync business, as we have the biggest repertoire, which will further help the industry.”

The tool can be accessed by going to the Saregama website and clicking on the ‘License Songs’ link on top. One can drop a mail to license a song or more. Once the query is received, the Saregama team will contact the respective person.

Mehra also hinted that the label will soon announce yet another digital initiative.
