Zee Music Company acquired music of 30 Marathi films in seven months

MUMBAI: From October 2014 till date, Zee Network’s music division- Zee Music has strengthen its hold in the Marathi space. The music label has so far acquired the music rights of 30 Marathi films.

The films include ‘Welcome Zindagi’, ‘Prime Time’, ‘Salt Sugar Ani Prem’, ‘Siddhant’, ‘Tujhya Vin Mar Javaan’, ‘Runh’, and ‘Yudh-Astitvachi Ladai’ amongst others. While the company has been acquiring Marathi film music aggressively, it does not have any specific plan in the space, stated a source.

Considering the Marathi music industry is not as large as Bollywood, the company is not getting a huge share of revenue through that space.

The music for ‘Tujhya Vin Mar Javaan’ is composed by music director Avadhoot Gupte, while that for ‘Salt Sugar Ani Prem’ is given by composers Soumil and Siddharth Mahadevan. Meanwhile the music for ‘Yudh- Astitvachi Ladai’, which stars Kranti Redkar, Tejaswini Pandit and Rajesh Shringarpure is composed by Vivek Kar and the music for ‘Prime Time’ is by debutant music composer Niranjan Pedgaonkar.

Although Zee Music has not maintained or built a strategy to push the music across various platforms, it has been acquiring content that fits the label’s vision. Most of the music content is aired on radios across Maharashtra, excluding Mumbai as there are not many stations that really support Marathi content in the city.

Recently, the music launch of the Marathi film ‘Welcome Zindagi’ took place in Mumbai and the music for the film is composed by Amit Raj, Pankaj Padghan, Soumil and Siddarth. It is slated to release on 26 June.
