Surfing In The South

Covelong – India’s first surfing village – has quickly become a hub of surf culture in South India, and one of India’s top surfing destinations. Hosted by the Covelong Point Social Surf School and supported by the Tamil Nadu Coastal Security Group, the Covelong Point Festival attracts thousands of attendees from across India and around the world every year, and has quickly mushroomed into India’s leading surf, music and yoga festival.

The primary aim of the school and of the festival is to use surfing as a catalyst for positive change and rehabilitation in the tsunami afflicted South Indian village, simultaneously encouraging economic growth by providing tourism and business opportunities for local vendors. In 2013, the TT Group and EarthSync tied up with the Surfing Federation of India - the national governing body for surfing in India - and together, they created the festival. Celebrities like Jonty Rhodes attend and endorse the festival as its official surf ambassador, and this year’s competition will see surfers from around the world competing for a variety of cash prizes. Beach side activities and competitions – including India’s first Slack Line championship, a volleyball tournament, kayak races, and a Rangoli competition – will also offer various cash prizes to winners.

Yoga Shala

As a lifestyle festival with a holistic approach, the event also features a Yoga Festival dedicated to a diverse variety of yoga and meditation workshops, introducing festival goers to different branches of yoga, meditation techniques, massage sessions, healing music therapies and more. Sessions will feature workshops like The Magic Of Sound And Movement with Divya Rolla, Joshna Ramakrishnan, and Yotam Agam - a live collage of music accompanying an invigorating Hatha Flow class; Ashtanga Yoga with Rinat Reina; Chakra Meditation with Divya Srinivasan; Sound Bath & Relaxing Vinyasa with Holly Ann; Yoga For Children with Monica Sandifer – and many more incredible classes. DoGood are organizing the Sun Salutation Retreat from August 19 – 29, 2016 – a luxurious wellness retreat that brings together yoga, meditation, surfing and music for 10 days of cultural and spiritual immersion in Tamil Nadu, finally culminating at the festival.
