Escape Festival delayed till September because of elections: L Tochhawng

MUMBAI: The Escape Festival of Arts and Music 2014 has been pushed back to September. Delhiites will, however, get a chance to enjoy Escape Summer Vibe, the official pre-party to the festival.

L Tochhawng, Festival Director said about the delay in the 7th edition, "The festival has been postponed to September, primarily because of the elections. But there will be ‘Escape Summer Vibe' where we are introducing a few new artistes in the electronic line up and also looking at a live jazz-funk outfit called ‘Soul'd Out'. Our basic aim with Summer Vibe is to actually have a nice get together with our patrons here in Delhi."

The pre-party will take place on 17 May 2014 at the Season's Golf Resort in Manesar. The primarily EDM line-up will have Vial/Audiogramme, Ananda, Minimal Monk, Tech Panda, Guy Called Sid Sal, Monolith, BlueOrb/BuffaPirate, KT, Marsh, WhiteWizard and Fuzz Culture. Apart from these DJs, there will be performances by blues/jazz-funk band Soul'd Out.

The 3-day event is still in its planning stage and the programming is currently being finalised. Although there are usually two stages, Tochhawng confirmed that the team is looking at expanding and are considering having more stages. The main event will showcase artistes across all genres; live, sufi, blues, jazz, rock and roll, some metal, electronica, a bit of everything. The pricing of tickets is yet to be finalised.

Speaking about the change in the taste of music in the country, Tochhawng explained, "What I have noticed is a definite. There are certain groups that like different genres/sub-genres. People are getting clearer about the kind of music they have an affinity for. Previously dance music was just dance music; now people are starting to understand the sub genres and beginning to like it."
