MUMBAI: The official family company- Experience Hendrix, L.L.C., founded by James ‘Al’ Hendrix, father and sole heir of legendary guitar hero and rock icon, Jimi Hendrix, has renewed an agreement with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).

ASCAP has taken on the responsibility to report the usage of songs by Hendrix. “Jimi Hendrix joined ASCAP in 1968 and we have proudly represented his repertory for decades,” said ASCAP EVP Membership John Titta. “Hendrix was such a pivotal figure and talent in rock and roll. There will never be another like him and we are privileged to play a role in helping his influence live on,” he added.

“We want to share Jimi’s legacy with as many people as possible,” said Experience Hendrix, L.L.C. president and CEO Janie Hendrix. “We know we can count on ASCAP to look after his music wherever it is heard and for the kind of in-depth data that we need as the stewards of his catalog.”

The 1995 formed company, which is owned and operated by members of the Hendrix family, has a licensing agreement with Legacy Recordings, a division of Sony Music Entertainment. This also allows the label to repack Hendrix’s songs based on the demand from users. The label recently announced that it will launch 12", 10" and 7" vinyl collectibles as part of Record Store Day's Black Friday 2015, which will take place on 27 November.

In August this year, Experience Hendrix/ Legacy Recordings released ‘Freedom: Atlanta Pop Festival’, which is a performance live album by the legendary artist and this musical work celebrates the guitar god’s 4 July, 1970 concert at the Second Atlanta International Pop Festival. The album captures Hendrix’s performance in front of an estimated three to four lakh people - the largest audience he ever played to in the U.S.

His influence is still very strong even after four and a half decades; and his work has travelled across the world and ASCAP will accounting for the use of it.

Other legendary Classic rockers that have an agreement with ASCAP include AC/DC, The Beatles, Billy Joel, Black Sabbath, Bob Seger, The Cars, Deep Purple, The Doors, Frank Zappa, Grateful Dead, James Taylor, Jeff Lynne (ELO), KISS, Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, Peter Frampton, Pink Floyd, Queen, Steely Dan, Tom Petty and Van Halen.
