Saavn's revamped app for Android is finally launched

MUMBAI: Indian music streaming service Saavn unveiled its new app for Android on Monday, 26 May. The revamped version of the application (Saavn Music for Android version 3.0) has been developed in collaboration with Android teams from Google. The new app is also the first to by the company to offer full Android tablet support.

Saavn's new app has been designed with full screen album art in the player and a rich tiled homescreen, which offers direct entry to the Saavn Radio. The new app has put its main focus on music as it now enables accessing songs in 11 different languages.

Talking about the new development, CTO and co-founder of Saavn, Anurag Gupta said, "India is an Android-driven market, and 70% of Saavn's listeners in India are on Android. We're excited to deliver the best possible user experience to the majority of our listener base with this new app. It's been carefully crafted to optimize the multiple screen experience, and to work seamlessly across a wide range of Android versions and hardware configurations."

In April 2014, the company released its 3.0 app for iOS, which proved to be a huge hit with consumers. It resulted in a 20 per cent increase of Saavn's daily streams on iOS, a 7.5x increase of radio streams and an increase of 15 to 50 per cent per language in regional languages. In addition to this, the overall daily unique users on Saavn also increased by 10 per cent.

Currently, the 2006 founded streaming service has more than 11 million monthly users over the world and the music catalogue spans over one million tracks in a number of languages including Hindi, English, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali, Telugu, Bhojpuri, Gujarati and Kannada.
