Yahoo and Simon Cowell team up for 'Ultimate DJ'

MUMBAI:  Internet giant Yahoo has teamed up with media mogul Simon Cowell for a new music competition series named 'Ultimate DJ'. It will be streamed live and DJ and producer Steve Aoki will be one of the celebrity judges in the show.

The tech giant announced a slew of original programmings at its NewFronts presentation on Monday, including live electronic-music competition series 'Ultimate DJ' from Cowell's banner Syco Entertainment.

'Ultimate DJ' will let viewers participate by casting their votes via Tumblr. It will see some of the new electronic music DJ artists from around the world competing in this live global series. The winner will be crowned the 'Ultimate DJ' and be offered an opportunity to headline a major electronic music festival and a record contract with Ultra Records and Sony Music.

"Electronic music is one of the most important genres around the world and we want to respect what's happening around the world," Cowell said during the presentation at Manhattan's Lincoln Center.

Cowell stated, "I have always been excited to be involved in a show where you have the chance to discover a star. And to do that, I know from experience you need great partners and the rest will follow. We are excited to be partnering with Patrick Moxey of Ultra Records and Hamish Hamilton of Done and Dusted to bring this series to Yahoo."

The new music competition series is part of Yahoo's goal to add the number of live content, including music concerts, and scripted programming. The company also announced global daily series ‘Yahoo News Live’ with Katie Couric as the anchor.
