Venkaiah Naidu gets I&B, Javadekar gets HRD

MUMBAI: M Venkaiah Naidu has been given additional charge of the information and broadcasting ministry, along with his other portfolios of Urban Development Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, as part of the Cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday.

Naidu takes over from Arun Jaitley, who was holding the portfolio along with the other two portfolios – finance and corporate affairs. The reshuffle has come at a time when the e-auction for the second batch of phase III of private FM radio in the country is poised to take off.

In other news, Prakash Javadekar has taken over the reins of the human resource and development ministry from Smriti Irani, who has been shifted to the lesser significant textiles portfolio. The HRD ministry oversees the functioning of the music industry in the country. However, issues of copyright in the country were recently shifted to the department of Industrial Policy and Promotion. Thus far, copyright was the preserve of the human resource development ministry.
