Highlights of Official Charts: A unique record for Bieber, and an unstoppable Adele

MUMBAI: Justin Bieber’s reign at the Top 3 of the Singles Chart continues to the second week of the new year, achieving a personal best at the Charts for the latest week. The Canadian pop star occupies the Top 3 with his three singles from the album ‘Promise’, with ‘Love Yourself’ securing the top spot for the fifth week in a row. The incredible feat, achieved by no artist ever before, adds to the list of milestones Bieber has set since the release of his new album. The other singles ‘Sorry’ and ‘What Do You Mean’ hold the #2 and #3 positions respectively. Following Bieber’s singles, Shawn Mendes’ ‘Stitches’ grabs the fourth position, ahead of Adele’s ‘Hello’. Motorhead’s ‘Ace of Spades’ re-enter the Top 40 charts since the campaign to send the hit into the charts began following the legendary guitarist’s death.

Even the 81st birth anniversary of “King of Rock n Roll” Elvis Presley did not stop Adele from continuing her phenomenal run in the Albums Chart. The ‘Hello’ singer regains the top spot for the seventh consecutive week, after recording 3,300 more chart sales compared to Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s Elvis album titled ‘If I Can Dream’, which spends its 10th consecutive week in the Top 3. Setting records at the Singles Chart, Bieber managed to create no rare feat in the Albums Chart, although firmly holds the third position for his album ‘Promise’.

David Bowie’s 25th studio production titled ‘Blackstar’ releases this month, and could very well provide entertaining competition to the Top 3 albums. Meanwhile, in Vinyl sales, Adele once again took the cake and the cherry as her album ‘25’ made the fastest 2 million sales ever, late last year. At #2 comes Amy Winehouse’s ‘Back To Black’ which received a huge boost since the release of the documentary on the artist.

UK Official Charts announced the Top 40 Most Streamed Songs of 2015 and the Felix Jaehn’s remix of OMI’s ‘Cheerleader’ was announced as the most streamed song of the previous year, followed by ‘Lean On’- the Major Lazer ft. MO & DJ Snake hit, that recently crossed 1 billion views on the YouTube.
