Acer debuts in Indian market with five smartphones

MUMBAI: Computer manufacturer Acer has announced its entry into the Indian mobile market with five new smartphones- DX900, DX650, X960, F900 and M900.

The handsets will be priced between Rs 24,000 and Rs 35,000. The company also announced its plans to introduce more handsets soon, starting from Rs 16,000 to capture the fast growing Indian mobile market.

Unveiling the phones here, Acer Senior Corporate Vice-President Aymar de Lencquesaing, who is also President of Acer's Smart Handheld Business Group said, The official launch in India marks the first step of our smart handheld business group in one of the world's largest and fastest growing mobile markets. Our phones are designed to deliver a seamless convergence of functionalities for both personal and professional use....

Acer smartphones will be marketed by Delhi-based Vision Distribution Pvtd. Ltd. Vision Distribution Director, Rajiv Babbar said, Initially, Acer phones will be available in top eight cities, including the four metros. We will then gradually expand to State capitals and mini-metros. Before Diwali, we will be launching new smartphones with prices starting from Rs. 16,000....

Stating that out of the seven million phones being sold every month, only one per cent or 70,000 phones are smartphones priced at over Rs 15,000 that are mainly sold in top ten cities including the four metros, Babbar added that they were targeting 10 per cent of this market.

M900 keeps a track of the users' activities and helps to access contacts and files through synchronization with their notebook or desktop computer. With a full keyboard, it is ideal for emailing and editing documents. Preinstalled with Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, Outlook® Mobile email and Office Mobile (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) users will maintain efficiency on the go. HSDPA connectivity enables fast data transfer and the large 3.8-inch WVGA touchscreen dramatically improves your web browsing experience. An embedded fingerprint sensor secures the smartphone and simplifies password maintenance.

It is also equipped with GPS, FM Radio, voice recorder and voice-command, as well as expandable memory, and a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with flash.

The F900 gives the users total control over web browsing. With a 3.8-inch WVGA touch screen and new easy-to-use touch keyboard, the F900 is able to display more information on screen while offering an excellent mobile browsing experience. The new user-interface makes navigating through the device a pleasure, providing quick links to contacts, email messages, bookmarks, calendars, date and time, world weather and music. It also comes also with an integrated 3.2-megapixel auto-focus camera with flash, GPS, FM Radio, voice recorder, voice command, and expandable memory.

To cater to consumers seeking multiple features without having to carry several devices, the sleek and compact ACER X960 is the quintessential all-purpose performer. It has GPS, PDA, camera, MP3 player and a widget-based friendly interface for instant access to the web. The handset also has 2.8-inch VGA TFT LCD touch screen with Genuine Windows Mobile 6.1. It also has a 3.2 megapixel camera with fixed focus and a microSD card slot. It uses Samsung S3C 6400 mobile processor (533 MHz).

Acer Tempo DX900 is the world's first dual-sim smartphone to support both 3G and 2G SIMs. Its other features include 2.8-inch VGA TFT LCD touch screen with Genuine Windows Mobile 6.1. It has a 3 megapixel camera with auto-focus with extendable microSD slot. It also has 2.5 mm stereo jack.

ACER DX650 takes user-interface convenience to new levels with a dual-face design, featuring a touch screen on one side and finger-friendly keypad on the other.
