Nokia to unleash 5800 in November

MUMBAI: Nokia is likely to launch its first touch screen phone in India in the third week of November. The Finnish handset major will position the phone, Nokia 5800', under its music platform XpressMusic' series and likely to price it at sub-Rs 20,000.

The model has just been unveiled globally and pegged by analysts as the iPhone killer.

Nokia India managing director D Shivakumar expects this phone will create the market for touch screen devices in India.

The Nokia 5800 features a 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens, a virtual QWERTY keyboard and offers all the music essentials - graphic equaliser, 8GB memory, support all digital music formats and built-in surround sound stereo speakers.

Post launch of this handset, Nokia intends to study consumer behaviour towards touch screen phones in India.

Nokia is also planning to bundle exclusive content featuring its brand ambassador Shah Rukh Khan for handsets sold in India. It has recently bundled the full length 'Om Shanti Om' movie in Nokia N96. It will look at bundling video clips and music of Shah Rukh Khan movies in the handsets.

Nokia is also looking at a long-term brand association with SRK's IPL team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). "After IPL, studies have shown the number one national brand was Shah Rukh Khan and number two was Nokia. We have started joint-branding opportunities with KKR and will also sponsor them in the next IPL season," said Mr Shivakumar.
