Samsung unveils multimedia phone Innov8

BANGALORE: Samsung Mobile has launched a mobile entertainer, an 8 mega pixel camera phone -Samsung Innov8 in the Indian market. Bollywood actor Soha Ali Khan unveiled the product in Bangalore on Wednesday. Innov8 offers users camera technologies, a surround-sound cinematic video experience, a mobile internet browsing experience and mobile gaming capabilities.

This is the 31st mobile model launched by Samsung in the country this year. Another eight to 10 additional models, including multimedia phones, will be launched by the end of this calendar year, according to Samsung Mobile country head Sunil Dutt.

A television campaign will commence in November once sufficient stocks of the Innov8 have been deployed across the country, inform company sources. This campaign will be a continuation of the Samsung's "Next is What?" campaign featuring brand ambassador Aamir Khan. The company has doubled its ad spends this year as compared to last year, according to sources at Samsung.

Samsung intends to double its market share to 15 per cent in India over the next few months on the back of sales of high end phones which will make up about 40 per cent of its total mobile revenues. Samsung estimates peg the high end mobile phone market in India to be six to seven per cent of the 10 million plus overall mobile market this year. By 2010, industry estimates put the size of the global mobile market to one billion units, of which 25 per cent will be in India. Samsung estimates that 50 per cent of the 250 million handset market in India by 2010 will comprise of existing mobile services users replacing handsets.

Innov8 supports a wide range of video player formats including DivX, WMV, Real Player and MPEG4.. It has external dual speakers and 3D surround sound supported by DNSe 2.0. The Innov8 is being launched preloaded with two of Aamir Khan's movies.

Samsung Innov8 has imaging applications such as smile shot, blink shot and face recognition, (features found in high end cameras). Users can personalize and edit photos, videos and music with Movie Maker and Story Board applications. The handset also acts as a digital photo frame.

Other features of the Innov8 include two pre-embedded ames- Asphalt and FIFA 08,mobile web browsing experience, an optical mouse and 4-way navigation key, HSDPA high speed internet and WiFi connectivity.

The phone is equipped with A GPS technology, offering navigation and geo-tagging service. It also comes with the Symbian OS V9.3, S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2, which helps users to download various ready-made applications for Symbian mobiles.

The Samsung Innov8 is priced at Rs 45,999/-.

A few days ago, Samsung had launched a Karaoke music phone Beat 270 (priced at Rs 10,899 each)and Samsung Omnia (priced at Rs. 39,999 for the 32 GB memory model and Rs 37,999 for the 24 GB model) in the Indian market. The Omnia has been positioned by Samsung to take on Apple's recently launched I-phone, say industry sources.
