MUMBAI: The JD Rocks Awards saw a host of deserving wins, of which Indus Creed emerged as the favorite with an outstanding 7 nominations and 3 big wins - Best Band, Keyboardist and Drummer of The Year for their latest album Evolve. The band formed in 1993, originally called Rock Machine, gained popularity in the early '90s.
Universal Music India released the trailblazing Indian rock bands latest album Evolve last year, their first studio album since 1995.
Evolve is a truly global creation boasting some remarkable talent from across the world. It was recorded in Mumbai, mixed in Austin, Texas by Grammy-nominated mixing engineer Tim Palmer (Pearl Jam, Robert Plant, Ozzy Osbourne, U2, Tears for Fears) and mastered in New York City by veteran mastering engineer Andy VanDette (Rush, Porcupine Tree, Beastie Boys).
Commenting in the spectacular win for the band, Uday Bengal of Indus Creed said, "It was an absolute trip to be awarded Best Band at this year's JD Rock Awards. But the added thrill was to see our bandmates Zubin Balaporia and Jai Row Kavi win for their stellar talent too.
It's a great time for indie music in India, as was witnessed by the fertile output of music last year and underscored by the sheer talent that was a part of this year's awards. We're just really happy to be a part of this scene and plan to stick around for a while. Someone's gonna have to kick us off stage if they want us to stop."
Said Devraj Sanyal, MD Universal Music India and SAARC, " I am super proud to see Indus Creed win 3 of the main awards at this years Jack Daniel's Rock Awards. They deserve every accolade and more. To be in the business for 25 plus years & yet be relevant to the rock fraternity the way they are is truly remarkable. I must also commend Radha & the team at Rolling Stone India in instituting an award of this stature. Universal Music being the sub continents leading non film & inde label is proud to partner initiatives like these which help give a platform for music and musicians which stand proudly apart from Bollywood"
Considered by many as the pioneers of the Indian Rock scene, Indus Creed set the stage for what we recognize today as the definitive rock movement in India - unshackled, pathbreaking, well-produced original music embodying the spirit of free expression and individuality. Their widespread popularity ensured the India got a spot on the international rock scene in the 90's as they toured the within the country as well as internationally playing at such prestigious events as the Festival of India in Russia, Peter Gabriel's WOMAD in the UK, performed with Bon Jovi for a 40,000 strong crowd in Mumbai and also performed with Guns 'n' Roses guitarist Slash.
