EarthSync celebrates life from lands affected by the tsunami

Mumbai: EarthSync, a Chennai-based world music record label, will screen Laya Project at Blue Frog, Mathuradas Mills Compound, NM Joshi Marg, Lower Parel, on Sunday, November 23, at 8:30 P.M. Laya Project is a compilation of music from six countries, six shores that share one ocean, one sky and speak one language – of survival. The Project features the music of Sufi shrine singers from Nagapattinam, Buddhist chanting monks from Tibet and the tapattam and tudumbattam groups from Tamil Nadu, amongst others. The representative for the event will be Marketing Head- Micheal Genrich- EarthSync.

According to Sonya Mazumdar, CEO & Director, EarthSync Laya Project was conceived right after the 2004 tsunami with an objective to explore the music and beauty of the communities affected by the tsunami. We have received tremendous response to the album; people really enjoy the experience and the blend of folk, classical, electronica and high-energy percussion. The screening of Laya Project takes this closer to the hearts of music lovers....

In remote villages that lay in the 2004 tsunami's path in Asia, unknown local folk musicians were recorded and filmed for Laya Project. This project is a personal and collective musical tribute to the resilience of the human spirit, a celebration of the spirit of sound. The production creates a composition that mixes and enhances the original recordings, and embarks on an inspirational visual and musical journey crossing borders, while preserving the music of the people. Some of the performances are rare and are documented for the first time in this production.

Laya Project has received Best Film Awards at the Imaginaria (Italy) and Zanzibar International Film Festivals (2008). Laya Project also received the Best Film Award at the Byron Bay Film Festival, Australia (2008, and Founder's Choice Award for Best Documentary at New York International Independent Film Festival, Los Angeles, USA (2007).

Laya Project was screened recently at Mocha in Chennai and was received very well by the audience. The exceptional visuals and soulful music had the audience captivated.
