ETV Urdu to telecast Jahan-e-Khusrau 2013 and 801st Ajmer Urs Celebrations

MUMBAI: Jahan-e-Khusrau 2013, the annual world sufi music festival, will be aired on the leading national channel, ETV Urdu. The entire event telecast will take place over three days, starting 7 May - 9 May, 2013.

Jahan-e-Khusrau is an annual three-day Sufi music festival held in New Delhi to commemorate the death anniversary of the Saint Hazrat Amir Khusrau. The festival, designed and directed by filmmaker, Muzaffar Ali, has the distinction of hosting eminent artists of the Sufi traditions from all over the world.

ETV Urdu partnered with the ‘12th International World Sufi Music Festival’ as an exclusive broadcast partner to ensure strong telecast presence nationally and internationally. ETV Urdu has an unparallel reach across 54 countries world wide, majorly in India, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, UAE, Australia, Canada, etc. The channel will have 18 hours of telecast with regular repeats and some breath taking performances by the maestros of their league.

The first day telecast of ‘Jahan -e-Khusrau’ event on Tuesday, 7 May (10:30 pm-12:00am), featured Turkish Composer, ney and bendir player, DJ and producer, Mercan Dede. His performance aimed to synthesize several different Sufi traditions.

The second day telecast on 8 May, Wednesday (10:30 pm-12:00am), showcases the brilliant performances of singer-songwriter, Deveshi Sehgal and Delhi- based vocalist, writer, stage and TV actor, Sonam Kalra.

This day will also feature the graceful Kuchipudi dance performance of stylist, fashion designer and entrepreneur, Pernia Qureshi, on live Sufi recital.

The final day telecast of the three-day Sufi Festival on 9 May, Thursday (10:30 pm-12:00am), will broadcast Pakistani singer and one of the foremost exponents of Sufi music, Abida Parveen. Her repertoire includes songs by Sufi poets in Urdu, Sindhi, Saraiki, Punjabi and

Persian. Her performance is an ode to the Sufi mystic, Amir Khusrau and will be a treat for the viewers, who could not attend the festival.

ETV Urdu has always catered to its audience by bringing to them quality broadcast programming and celebrating culture through its shows. Apart from telecasting the biggest Sufi Musical event, it will also broadcast the 801st Urs Sharif of Khawaja Garib Nawaz, live from Dargah Sharif, Ajmer.

Urs is a commemorative celebration, held in the solemn memory of Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti, popularly known as Gharib Nawaz. The entire telecast will consist of a bouquet of special programs.

The telecast will start with Sultan-e-Hind, a documentary on the life history of Khawaja Gharib Nawaz (R.A). Ifkar-e-Khawaja, is the next show where various scholars will share their knowledge about different aspects of the life and teachings of the Khawaja. Mehfil-e-Qawwali will have qawwalis of renowned Qawwals, as a tribute to Khawaja Gharib Nawaz. The program, Naatiya Mushaira, will feature poets from various parts of the country, rendering naat (poetry), in praise of Prophet Muhammed. The last segment will have the live telecast of  801st Urs Sharif Celebrations from Ajmer. This is a special section designed for the devotees of Gharib Nawaz all over the world, who will not be able to participate in the Urs Sharif.

This telecast will take place over two days, Day 1 - 16 May, Thursday (10:30pm – 4:00 am) and Day 2 - 17 May, Friday (9:00am – 2:30pm).
