Girl power on American Idol 12
MUMBAI: For the first time in the history of American Idol, the show spanning 12 seasons, the top five contestants are all going to be girls.
The biggest singing reality show, American Idol Season 12, currently airing in India on Big CBS Love, in concurrence with the US, created history as the last man standing Lazaro Arabos bid adieu to the competition due to failure to create an impact among fans with his singing skills.
The top five finalists for this year are Janelle Arthur, Candice Glover, Kree Harrison, Amber Holcomb and Angie Miller. With their sheer talent, they are all set to battle it out on stage in hopes of becoming the first female American Idol winner after a six season break. Season 12 has featured some mesmerizing performances overall, but in the end it is clearly girl power that has been winning over audiences and judges alike.
Although historic, the outcome is far from a surprise. Even before the Season 12 began, Idol judges had predicted this would be the Year of Women. The blue-eyed country boy and American Idol judge Keith Urban had even declared, “It's absolutely a girls' year to win. We saw probably over 270 people all up to get it down to where we are today and the girls were just incredibly strong this year.”
Looks like the country superstar definitely knew what he was talking about. And sure as much, the uber-talented ladies proved him right. But will the girls, who have been on the top of their game throughout the season, be able to meet expectations and continue stealing the show? All we can say is that with the five, strong females left standing; it’s anyone’s game to win.
