MUMBAI: Saregama Music Company, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of renowned vocalist, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, will be felicitating him by launching a compilation of some of the classical ragas that he has immortalised over the years through his mellifluous melodies.

The series titled My Music- The Saregama Years will feature a collection of the maestro's classical renderings from his initial years. The compilation is a four volume pack with each volume containing two discs each. Volume one contains classical songs from the first two 78-RPM records of Pt Joshi. The ragas featured in them are, Rag Multani, Rag Bhairavi, Rag Puriya and Rag Suhakanda. The songs are based on bandishein's of these four classic ragas.

Also the EP (Extended Play) versions of ragas like Puriya, Miyamalhar, Shudhkalyan and Basant are compiled on the discs. The second volume contains tunes from four long-playing records of ragas like Miyamalhar, Puriya Kalyan, Lalat and Shudh Kalyan. Other tunes include Bhairavi Bhajan Rag Darbari, and Rag Abhogi, Rag Yaman Kalyan and Rag Marvah. The third set contains Rag Kalashri, which was developed by Pt. Bhimsen Joshi himself. Other ragas on this volume include Chaya, Chaya Malhar, Darbari Kanada, Vrundavani Sarang, and Rag Durga. The fourth volume contains renderings by the great maestro's live concert at the Nehru Centre in Mumbai.

The volume features Rag Tilak Kamodh, Rag Bhairavi Jamuna and Rag Marwahshri. A further collection of the same series under volumes 5, 6, 7, 8 will also be released soon. The function is to be held at the Sawai Gandharv Smarak in front of the Police Grounds in Shivajinagar at 10.30 am. The programme also features a vocal recital by the maestro's son and disciple Shrinivas Joshi.
