Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao reveal their chemistry on Radio One
MUMBAI: Come a film-release-eve, and marketer extraordinaire Aamir Khan slips into sixth gear. On Wedensday, two days before the launch of his wife Kiran Rao's film Dhobi Ghat, he was in the Mumbai studio of Radio One with Kiran, as special guests of MJ Hrishi K's morning show to promote the film. Their interview gave listeners an insight into what really makes the couple tick so well, and also ended with a compliment from Mr Perfect for the show's host Hrishi K who impressed Aamir with the way he handled the interview -- with dignity, respect and so much fun at same time. The show also played the Dhobi Ghaat signature theme tune that no station has played before.
The couple told MJ Hrishi K about the shooting of the film, lacing it with interesting insights and anecdotes, especially their 3-month stay in a cozy rented one-room tenement with 7 to 8 big windows on Mohammad Ali Road. They also shared interesting trivia on shooting late at nights in candle-light to avoid people gazing inside the house; how they got a chance to interact with dhobis and learnt about their hard lives; and Salman Khan being the inspiration for Aamir's role in the film.
They spoke about the background score of the film composed by international artist Gustavo Santaolalla and their personal preferences in music. While Kiran loves her Ipod, Aamir loves his radio, which he listens to ardently. While Kiran reaffirmed her taste for world music, Aamir stood by his love for Bollywood music, especially music composed by Nadeem Shravan for films like Dil and Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke The couple also expressed their 'paternal love' for Prateek Babbar, who, on Radio One, had claimed that he considered Aamir a father figure. Both spoke of Prateek's professionalism, dedication and raw talent which "really helped shape the movie".
Aamir was spotted wearing Kiran's earrings during his interview at the studio. When asked, he said it was the same earning he had taken from Kiran while shooting for Lagaan. Kiran joked about how she has since been trying to get him to give the earring back to her. Radio One listeners also heard Kiran Rao share her experience of trying her hand at being a Radio Jockey while she was a student of Mass Communication in Delhi. She also broke the myth that Aamir was a perfectionist in everything he did by sharing with listeners on how messy he is in his real life, but a perfectionist to the core in his work life. Taking a dig at Kiran, Aamir joked about the casting couch -- as his wife was casting him in the film!
