Artiste Reenie dishes out Sri Lankan club theme track for CLT20

MUMBAI: T20 Cricket has brought about a complete revolution to the sport. Today, cricket no more seems to be just about the players and the huge sum invested in each of the T20 teams by Shilpa Shetty, Shahrukh Khan or Ness Wadia. Infact there is a lot of hoopla that surrounds the cricket fever in India as well as abroad.

After the successful finishing of IPL, now it's time for Champions League which will take place in South Africa starting 10 September. All the teams are geared up with their theme songs that stand for the team as well as create that zing among the fans.

Reenie Mansata, a New York based Indian artiste has produced, composed and written the official team anthem for 'Wayamba Elevens', the Sri Lankan team that will be playing at the 'Airtel Champions league T-20 '. She has worked with German producer 'Miza' on the initial track.

A sport song should always be upbeat and peppy. So I have composed a high-energy song which talks about victory. The interesting bit of the song is that it consists names of all the team players at the end of the track,... said Reenie

Being a singer herself, she hasn't lent her voice to the song. To this she said, I wanted a male vocal to sing the song as it is based on cricket. Hence Farhad who is an Indian singer has sung it or me....

Reenie had recently recorded a Bengali rock song for a Bengali movie that released last month. She sang the song in Bengali, a language she does not speak and this time she again plays with a new language. Being an Indian, it was a difficult task to write and compose a song in Sinhalese but she pulled it off quite well.

I do not know the national language of Sri Lanka so it was a tough job. I penned down the lyrics in English and then translated it in Sinhalese with the help of few other Sri Lankan lyricists. I had to make it sure that the song sounds just right and that the message is conveyed well marinating the feel of the song,... added Rennie

The singer, songwriter, producer and performer fuses the musical influences of East and West in her music and has had numerous music channels like, MTV, channel V, B4U and Sony featuring her music videos. Rennie has made it a point to add some elements of Sri Lankan beats and percussions to the theme song as according to her it should have the flavour of its countries music

Describing her experience of working on the song, she smilingly said, This is one of my first attempts as a producer and hence I am quite excited. I have also created a 21-second promo of the track which will be played throughout the match when the cricketers hit a six or a four....

Reenie loves the new trend of music being interspersed with sports. She believes that music inspires and excites individuals. It takes the spirit of game to an entire different level. It helps a cricket fan identify more with the team,... told Rennie.

While Reenie will be seen heading to South Africa for cheering the players, she will continue to work on producing other songs for the Sri Lankan team which have been assigned to her.
