Asha Bhosle unimpressed with Yo Yo Honey Singh's 'India's Raw Star'
MUMBAI: There is a lot more than criticism veteran singer Asha Bhosle offered through her comment on Yo Yo Honey Singh's new show- 'India's Raw Star'. She stated that she only watched the first episode to know more about the show.
"It is kids who can be termed 'Raw Stars' and not grown-ups, who have reached 25 years in age. If a 25 year-old is out of tune, he or she will continue being out tune. A grown-up individual will find it difficult to learn the tunes and rhythms while singing," Bhosle told reporters at Big FM Studio. She was present there to promote her new album 'Bappa Morya', which also features Zanai. The music of this track has been composed by percussionist Nitin Shankar.
When asked about her style of judging, if she should be called for a show, she said, "The people who make the show call us and say that they need us to direct the artistes; we would select kids who are good."
Bhosle also stated that mistakes of a singer can only be corrected by artistes, teacher or a smart individual. Otherwise, singers will continue making mistakes if they have not been taught properly. "People just listen to songs and sing it, but someone has to correct the mistakes. I believe that things are fast and computerised. There is Google for everything but there is no Google for music, so singers have to be trained. The young generation should be taught."
She showed her concern for the new crop of singers and musicians who are not trained in classical or semi-classical music.
Bhosle also at times trains her grand-daughter Zanai who is in standard seventh and has developed a penchant for singing and dancing. Narrating the story behind the album she said, "I got a call saying that there are just few days left for Bappa to come, and Nitin Shankar wanted to create an album before the advent of Ganesh Chaturthi and he composed the tune. Within two days, we recorded and mastered the song and it was ready."
Talking about her grand-daughter Bhosle said, "She will continue doing what she loves, but the one that I do not want her to do is become a playback singer, as today the job of a playback singer is very different compared to what it used to be before."
Bhosle hopes that Zanai will follow her advice and take up singing her own songs and do some things around classical fusion because Zanai also sings in English.
She also hinted that her book is almost done but she has not been able to complete it due to various other commitments. She also hinted that she will unveil two new albums in the coming months.
On 8 September, the veteran singer turns 81 years old and she hopes that she make her birthday a family affair.
Music label Saregama released the album 'Bappa Morya' at the Siddhi Vinayak temple last week.
