Cannes Lions appoints Ralph van Dijk as radio jury president

MUMBAI: The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity has announced Ralph van Dijk as its Radio Lions jury president for its 2013 festival. Dijk is the creative director and co-founder of Eardrum.

Commenting on his appointment, Dijk said, “For a creative who sold his soul to radio decades ago, leading the jury in such an auspicious year is a huge honour. It will also be a ridiculous pleasure given we are the only jury with a roof garden. All we need now is stunning work, so dust off that brilliant radio idea you have kept in the bottom draw, because this is definitely the year to sell it, make it and enter it.”

This year, the fest will mark 60 years of its creativity and has announced jury presidents in all of its 16 categories to chair the juries. Besides Radio, the Branded Content & Entertainment Lions will be presided by Ensemble CEO and president Scott Donaton, Creative Effectiveness Lions Jury by Ogilvy & Mather Emeritus chairman Shelly Lazarus, the Cyber Lions Jury will be headed by R/GA founder, chairman and CEO Bob Greenberg, Design Lions Jury by Leo Burnett chief creative worldwide Mark Tutssel, Film Lions Jury by Bartle Bogle Hegarty founder- creative Sir John Hegarty, Film Craft Lions Jury PYTKA director Joe Pytka.

The Innovation Lions Jury will be presided by Droga5 founder and creative chairman David Droga, Media Lions Jury by VivaKi chairman Jack Klues, Mobile Lions Jury by AKQA chief creative officer and VP Rei Inamoto, Outdoor Lions Jury by Young & Rubicam global chief creative officer Tony Granger, PR Lions Jury by Ketchum Europe senior partner and CEO David Gallagher, Press Lions Jury by AlmapBBDO partner and chief creative officer Marcello Serpa, Promo & Activation Lions Jury by TBWA\Worldwide global creative president Rob Schwartz and the Titanium & Integrated Lions Jury will be presided by Wieden+Kennedy co-founder and chairman Dan Wieden.

Lions Festivals CEO Philip Thomas said, “When you reach your Diamond Jubilee it's only right to celebrate with something special. And with this group of presidents it's no exaggeration to say that there can never have been such a talented – not to say intimidating – group ever assembled to judge the world's best work. More than ever, anyone winning a Cannes Lion in 2013 can bask in the knowledge that their work has been judged by not only some of the biggest names currently at work today, but by giants from the history of advertising and communications.”

The fest will be held from 16-22 June 2013. Entries are now being accepted into all categories including the new Innovation Lions, introduced to honour the technology and innovation which lead to the creative idea being possible.
