Cokestudio@MTV Season 2 gets bigger and better

MUMBAI:  Cokestudio@MTV is all set to commence its second season with an artistic format based on the theme of ‘Diversity and Originality’.

This season will feature musical diversity through 40 original songs, composed by 12 producers and over 200 musicians. As reported by Radioandmusic.com earlier, the show will consist of compositions specially created by producers like Amit Trivedi, Nitin Sawhney, Karsh Kale, Clinton Cerejo, Shantanu Moitra, Ehsaan & Loy and Hitesh Sonik.

Renowned and independent singers who will feature in the show include Usha Uthup, Kaushiki Chakrabarty, Swanand Kirkire, Harshadeep Kaur, Noora Sisters, Shilpa Rao, Jalebee Cartel, Nitin Sawhney, Hari and Sukhmani, Papon, Dhruv Sangari, La Pongal, Agam, Saawan Khan Mangniyar, Mame Khan, Piyush Mishra and Shankar Tucker.

Speaking with Radioandmusic.com about the revised format, MTV India EVP and business head Aditya Swamy said, “The whole idea of this season is to create original music and to put forth original songs. As the producer is the creator who brings together each and every element of the song, the second season will depict the thought process of those producers. The show has also broadened the number of musicians bringing it to a total of 200 musicians.”

Music Producer Shantanu Moitra said, “Coke Studio brings together the various folk sounds of India. We as artistes are getting an opportunity to experiment with new sounds and compose original music which isn’t based on any story ideas. It’s quite challenging to produce music and jam with musicians on a live platform.”

“We have selected artistes who love to experiment with music or singing like Clinton ,Karsh Kale and Nitin Sawhney who have completely changed the music scenario with their sound. There are also artistes who come from dubstep and electronic, highlighting the diverse artistic music of India this season,” added Swamy.

The show will keep the core idea of a fusion music project intact and will combine genres like independent, classical, folk and popular in a live performance. The second season will commence in July.
