Crescendo to launch Suneeta Rao's new album

MUMBAI: After a creative break of eight years, Suneeta Rao, who created ripples in the Indipop world with her numbers, 'Pari hoon main', 'Kesariya' and 'Ab ke baras' is back with her album 'Waqt'. The indi-pop album will be launched in a fortnight by Crescendo.

The album has a track 'Sun zara', which has been produced in association with UNFPA- United Nations Population Fund addressing the issue of sex selection. "I believe that songs are capable of conveying powerful message and to enlighten the masses about the pleasure of having a girl child. This track in association with UNFPA is special to me and is the highlight of the album."This is the first time that Rao has tried her hand at writing and composing songs for the album. "The album has eight tracks and I have tried my hand at writing the lyrics except for the punjabi song which I co-wrote with Chandrashekhar Rajit and the track is composed by Dudul Saikia. The next three tracks are composed by me and arranged by DJ Gaurav Issar, one track is a collaboration of carnatic music with scores by drummer Lenny White."

The album is a result of five years of perseverance, says Suneeta. "Some of the tunes used in the album were composed when I used to hang out with Nexus band and Gino Banks. I am still a part of Nexus and we still engage in experimenting with different tunes."

Talking about the contemporary Indi-pop scene in India, Rao says, "Much of our music industry is Bollywood driven and as such music labels are not very supportive of an Indi-pop album."
