'Dama Dam Mast Kalandar' will feature in David amidst controversy

MUMBAI:  Controversies have become the trend of promoting movies as goes the saying Bad Publicity is Still Publicity. The most recent is for Bejoy Nambiar’s upcoming movie David where he is awaiting censor’s reply amidst the controversy surrounding the song ‘Dama Dam Mast Kalandar’.

The Sindhi Community has opposed on the usage of the song and has requested the makers, Reliance Entertainment and Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to take the song off air, as it sends out a wrong message, given the way it is portrayed in the promo.

Speaking with Radioandmusic.com, Nambiar said, “I will definitely carry on with the song in the movie. I have definitely not used it in any way that will  hurt anyone’s sentiment. So I don’t think there will be a problem.”

He added, “We have read it (the complain) and have acknowledged it lets see how it goes as in the end the censor has to decide.”

David is a bilingual movie - Hindi and Tamil, there are 15 tracks in Hindi version and nine in Tamil. Speaking about 15 tracks, he said, “I have collected songs that have suited the mood of the film. So they are based to compliment the film better. I have used music to drive my film; three-four songs are in sync while rest of them are used as background score.”

Both music composers Mikey McCleary and Prashant Pillai have worked for Nambiar’s Shaitan. “I have worked with them before and it was really a good experience so I decided to work with them again,” said Shaitan director.

To promote the film, live performances were held in Chennai and Mumbai. David is a action-thriller film directed by Nambiar and stars Vikram, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Vinay Virmani in the titular roles, alongside Tabu, Lara Dutta and Isha Sharvani. An altered version with the same title David featuring a slightly different cast was simultaneously shot in Tamil. The plot revolves around the lives of three different men named David, who are about to take a step which is going to change their lives forever.
